DIY and Disconnect: Paint your Planters

You’ve seen us paint canvases, you’ve seen us paint our plants, you’ve even seen us paint plates. So now, it is due time to paint our planters.

Eventually we all accrue lots of random terracotta or ceramic planters that are faded, boring, and/or mismatched. So, why not dress them up and give them new life? With a little paint, a few puns, and a healthy dose of creativity, it’s easy to do!

Here’s what you need:

Materials

  • Pots
  • Paints
  • Markers
  • Brushes
  • Plants!

Step one: paint

If you want to change the base color of any of your pots, just paint them. You’ll typically need a couple of coats, so have some patience. FYI, paint doesn’t stick very well to ceramic, so maybe save the paint for other pots. We’ll show you what to do with the ceramic pots in a bit.

Step two: decorate

different painting techniques

Here you can drip paint down the sides of your planters, draw faces, or write some plant puns! A few of our most succulent plant puns:

  • You grow girl
  • Say aloe to my little friend
  • Let’s talk some dirt
  • My life would succ without you
  • Please don’t die
  • It’s party thyme
  • Best buds
  • Plantastic

Step three: plant and enjoy!

Now, add in some plants and enjoy! You could even use these on your desk to hold pencils, or turn them upside down for a plant stand.

This comment is for Jenny Wolters. I went to one of her paint nights’. I had such a blast!!! Because of Jenny’s patience and the way she could turn someone into an artist, even though they had absolutely no artistic abiliities. It was one of the best nights i have ever had. I really appreciated her patience with all of us begginers!
