DIY Splatter Paint Plates

DIY and Disconnect: Splatter Paint Plates

Today, we wanted to help you re-purpose some old plates that might be collecting dust in the back of your cupboard. And, with summer around the corner, outdoor parties and BBQs totally call for these bright and fun plates!

Materials

Here’s what you need…

  • Clear glass plates
  • Metallic paint
  • Colorful acrylic paint
  • Spray varnish
  • Paintbrushes
  • Something to protect your work-space
  • Gloves (optional)

Step one: splatter

Using your metallic paint, lightly splatter the back of each of your plates. Make sure you are wearing an apron or clothes that can get messy as well as gloves if  you don’t want paint-y hands! Let your splatter dry completely, and then move on to…

Step two: colors

Once your splatter is dry, gather your splattered plates and put your desired colors onto a palette (or paper plate!).

Then, paint the backs of your plates with your colors on top of the dried metallic splatter! You may need to use a second coat for full coverage. Let these completely dry, and then move on to…

Step three: varnish

Finally, after everything is dry, spray a coat of varnish on the backs of your plates to seal in the plate. Once they are dry, flip over and enjoy!

Is there such a thing as a waitlist for any of the paintnites? I went to claim my 35% off my first one, and it was sold out. Can I come in case of a “no show’ for Saturday at Northridge?

      Hi Marietta,
Thanks for the note. Sorry about that! Our events can sell out quickly and when they do, we reach our capacity allowed for the venue or restaurant hosting Paint Nite. We are unable to add extra tickets once an event has sold out.

Space at our venues is limited, and we want to make sure everyone has room to paint. The number of tickets available is the maximum number the venue will allow. This is related to the size of the venue and comfort of its visitors, although it may also have fire code implications.

We don’t maintain a waiting list for sold out events. There are cancellations from time to time, so we encourage you to monitor the event web page for any cancellations that may occur. Although you may have better luck looking for another convenient and appealing event. If someone cancels, our website will be automatically updated with an opening.
