DIY and Disconnect: Custom Mugs

Coffee-time is the best time of day. If you’re like us, then you make it coffee-time all day long! Coffee with breakfast, coffee as a mid-morning pick-me-up, coffee to combat the 2pm slump, 4pm pro-caffeinating, and coffee with dessert. #wired. No, but seriously, coffee really helps you to espresso yourself!

But sometimes drinking coffee out of the same old mug makes coffee-time a little less exciting. So in order to help spice up your daily grind (lol), we thought we could teach you to but a personal touch on your favorite mug. Maybe this will also keep Beth from accounting from taking your mug, AGAIN.

Step one: materials

For this project you’ll need:

  • Plain ceramic mugs
  • Permanent paint pens
  • A can-do attitude
  • An oven

Step two: draw

It’s time to draw on your mugs. Use your paint pens and create your design or saying. We would suggest testing out how the paint pens write on separate paper—practice makes perfect!

If you do make a mistake, no worries! You can easily scratch it off.

Need a little inspiration for what to put on your mug? Here are some of our favorites:

  • There’s a chance this is wine
  • Messy bun and getting stuff done
  • Choose happy
  • Hot cup of awesome
  • A yawn is a silent scream for coffee
  • I drink coffee for your protection
  • Shine bright
  • Life is an adventure
  • I’m sorry for what I said before I had my coffee
  • I don’t give a sip

Step three: bake

Once you have finished your design, place your mugs in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. This will make the paint pens permanent!

Step four: cool beans

They look so great! Time to get brewing! Take a few pictures…

…and sip, sip away!
