signature sips: the drunken leprechaun

Oh, St. Patrick’s Day—you’re the best. How do I love thee? Let’s count the ways:

  1. I’m Irish, so I’m obligated. If I didn’t love it, something terrible would probably happen to me. Irish superstition and Irish guilt are real, so you gotta watch out.
  2. It’s an excuse to revert to your college days, day drink, and get into some shenanigans.
  3. The puns! “Irish I was drinking.” “It ain’t over till it’s clover.” “If it ain’t brogue, don’t fix it.”  So. Good. These puns are a pure pot of gold!
  4. It’s fun to dress for! You can go for green overload, or you can keep it simple with just a pop of Kelly! I opted to dress for the occasion by matching today’s beverage!

Now, moving on. To celebrate this holiday (excuse to day-drink), we’ve recreated a classic: the milkshake. Sure to bring all the Leprechauns to the yard, this drink is minty, cool, and buzz-worthy. Let’s get started!

Step one: ingredients

Ingredients

Line everything up and make sure you have what you need! The Drunken Leprechaun consists of:

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Milk
  • Peppermint schnapps
  • Whipped cream
  • Green food coloring

Pretty straightforward, huh?

Step two: ICE CREAM!

I scream, you scream! In my opinion, the best recipe is any that includes copious amounts of ice cream. For this one, I used an entire half gallon, and it made three (large) drinks. If you’re into moderation, you might argue this recipe yields four to six. But, hey, go big or go home.

Ice Cream

Fill your blender with that glorious ice cream. No exact ratios here. I mean, chances are you’re making this with a buzz already, so we wanted to make it as easy as possible!

Step three: milk

Add some milk to your blender. You don’t want to use too much or it’ll be too liquid-y! Aim for about a quarter to a half cup. Again, it’s really hard to mess this up. It’s still going to taste delicious, and you can always add more ice cream if it gets too runny!

Milk

Step four: SCHNAPPS

What a funny word. Add in your schnapps. This is where the mint comes from (and the booze) so be generous!

Schnapps

Step five: blend

Now, if you want your drink to be green, this is when you would add in some food coloring. Blend everything up, and pour into your glasses!

Pour

Step six: garnish!

That’s it, folks! Top with whipped cream, add a fun straw, and you’re golden (or green)!

Finished

Don’t forget to share one with your fellow Leprechaun/drinking buddy!

cheers!

Cheers! Don’t forget to use the hashtag #PaintNiteBuzz if you try this at home!
