signature sips: souped-up sidecar

Bourbon: arguably my favorite poison. No, definitely my favorite. It’s big and bold, but a little softer than whiskey. Its warm and comforting just like the hug you need after a long day at the office. AND, it pairs perfectly with some of my fave cocktail flavor profiles (citrus for days).

This week, we are souping up a classic. With a nod to tradition (don’t worry Gatsby), but some unique twists and turns (hey, it is 2017. Daisy has got to call some of the shots), the Souped-up Sidecar is making our hearts sing. So, without further ado, let’s get crack-a-lackin.

step one: yup. ingredients.

#iwokeuplikethis Look at these beauties! Line up your ingredients and admire. What a pretty set of potions we have today! #instaworthy #YUM

Ingredients

You will need:

  • Bourbon (we opted for Bulleit because, duh.)
  • Cointreau
  • Aromatic bitters
  • Blood oranges
  • Honey
  • Ice (ice, baby)

step two: bourbon

Grab a shaker and fill it with ice. Then, add in an ounce of bourbon per serving…aka if you want to make 2 sidecars, pour 2 ounces!

Bourbon

step three: Cointreau

Same as above! Add in one ounce of Cointreau per desired serving.

Cointreau

step four: juice!

Take your blood oranges and juice them. You need to have one ounce per desired serving, so make sure your have enough! We found that a half an orange makes about an ounce of juice, but if you are using smaller oranges, you may need a full one per cocktail.

Juiced

How pretty is that?! I have hearts in my eyes.

step five: honey

Just a little sweetness! There is no exact measure on this step, just add a little honey to brighten things up.

Honey

step six: shake it

Now, shake your cocktail for 30-60 seconds, or until it is light and frothy.

Shaken

step seven: finishing touches

Pour your cocktail into chilled glasses and add a dash of bitters. You’re almost there!

pour

step eight: enjoy!

Garnish with orange peel, sip, and enjoy!
