signature sips: buzzed s’mores

It’s February! This is one of my favorite months because it’s full of excuses to spread love, celebrate the people you care for, and indulge in copious amounts of chocolate. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we wanted to craft something sweet, steamy, and a little bit sultry. May we present to you the Buzzed S’more (AKA spiked hot chocolate with an ooey-gooey marshmallow top)!

What’s better than s’mores? Not much. Unless, of course, you add whiskey and hot chocolate. Then it’s a whole other ballgame. So, let’s get sipping!

Step one: ingredients

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the most important step in any recipe is to gather your ingredients before you embark on your delicious adventure. For the Buzzed S’more, you’ll need:

  • Milk (feel free to substitute almond or soy milk)
  • Chocolate chips
  • Whiskey
  • Caramel sauce
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Marshmallows
  • Graham crackers (crushed)

Ingredients

Step two: chocolate

First, add your chocolate chips and milk in a pan. Use as many cups as servings you would like to make and add more or less chocolate depending on how sweet you’d like your treat!

Step three: mix it up

Next, heat on medium until the chocolate melts and combines with the milk.

Step four: all the buzz

The best part! Add the booze. Pour your whiskey into the pot. I opted for an ounce per cup of milk. If you’d like it a little less boozey, you can add less. If you’d like it a little more boozey, I’m not judging! The only important thing here is that you DO NOT bring your mixture to a boil. Boiling the chocolate will cause alcohol to dissipate, and that simply will not do.

Step five: get saucy

This step is so fun. Drizzle caramel and chocolate sauce on the rim of your heat-safe glass. Dip the rim into your crushed graham crackers.

Step six: mug shot

Next, transfer your spiked hot chocolate into your mugs and top with marshmallows.

Step seven: torch it!

Almost done! Toast the marshmallow, but be careful as it can easily be set on fire. I personally like burning my marshmallows, but if you don’t, then make sure you hold the flame far enough away from the marshmallow as to only brown them.

Step eight: garnish!

The crowning glory! Drink your beverage as is, or make it a little more festive with a graham cracker square or stirrer.

Step nine: sip, sip away

You made it! Now sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Happy sipping!
